Remove Excel Duplicates

This Excel tutorial teaches you how to remove duplicate rows from a sheet. The example file (available for download) contains three identical rows.

When removing duplicate rows, Excel removes all the identical rows except for the first identical row found (In this example row 2).

Remove Duplicates in Excel

1. Open the accompanied Excel file, and click any single cell within the data range.

2. On the Data tab, click Remove Duplicates.

3. To remove duplicate rows, leave all checkboxes checked and click on OK.

Result:

2 duplicate values found

To remove rows with identical values in certain columns, simply check the specific columns.

4. For example, remove rows with the same Last Name and Quarter.

Note: all other rows have a unique combination of Last Name and Quarter.

5. Check Last Name and Quarter and click on OK.
