Save in 97-2003 Format

When sharing Excel workbooks, it's good practice to save your Excel files in Excel 97-2003 format. This way, users who do not have Excel 2010 or Excel 2007 installed on their computer, can still open your Excel files.

Save in 97-2003 Format

Execute the following easy steps.

1. Open a Workbook.

2. On the File tab, click on Save As.

Click on Save As

3. Select Excel 97-2003 Workbook from the drop-down list.

4. Click Save.

Automatically Save in 97-2003 Format

To automatically save your Excel files in Excel 97-2003 format, execute the following steps.

1. Select the File tab, click Excel Options and choose the Save category.

2. Select Excel 97-2003 Workbook from the drop-down list.

3. Click OK.

Note: Excel 2010 and Excel 2007 files have the same file format (Excel Workbook). When saving Excel files in Excel 97-2003 format, features that are unique to Excel 2010 and Excel 2007 will not be retained.
