Excel Transpose

The Transpose function in Excel switches rows to columns or columns to rows. You can also use the Paste Special Transpose option to transpose Excel data quickly. Let's take a look at some easy examples.

Transpose Function

To insert the Transpose function, execute the following steps.

1. First, select the new range of cells!

2. Type in =TRANSPOSE(

3. Select the old range and close with a parenthesis.

4. TRANSPOSE must be entered as an array formula. To achieve this, finish by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER.

Note: to delete this array formula, select the entire range and press Delete.

Paste Special Transpose

Don't want to use the Transpose function? Just copy a range and use the Paste Special Transpose option to transpose Excel data quickly.

1. Select a range.

2. Right click, and then click on Copy.

3. Select the cell where you want to paste the values.

4. Right click, and then click on Paste Special.

5. Check Transpose.
